Dianne's Experiences

Dianne has been playing for church services from the time she was 12 years old starting with piano - and Sunday School. Then at the age of 14 playing organ for church.

For over 35 years she has been teaching music lessons privately. She has since seen some of her students go on and become teachers as well and accomplished musicians. Some of her voice students have gone on to become recording artists.

She has taught for several different school boards. In 1999, she taught for St. John's Music, out of Toronto, teaching at two different schools. Here she spent a lot of time on the roads but she enjoyed meeting the students from other areas and hopes that she has enspired them to go on.

Even though Dianne did not grow up in a French family or in a French community - she was able to learn how to speak French very well. She also knows how to speak several others. In 1998, she was able to put this to use and teach music in French at a French as a first language school. She found that music is music in any language.

At these schools she was completely responsible for setting up the corriculm and of giving tests and assignments as well as preparing newsletters and report cards.  She believes that she has heard all of the excuses of why any one has not practised .

Dianne has been part of a youth orchestra as a member and enjoyed the travelling and playing in other communities. As an adult, she has directed and conducted many bands as well as choirs and enjoys both aspects. Dianne is has organized a "New Horizons Band" for those over 50 years of age, similiar to the program offered at Western University, in London Ontario.

Dianne has also been part of several different music groups - some rock bands, some gospel bands and some duos. She has played and sang at many weddings . Dianne has also managed and produced a couple of bands and is the organizer for the Tillsonburg Canada Day Festival of Music.

Dianne is also an active member of Theatre Tillsonburg and Western Ontario Drama League and has directed Musicals for Theatre Tillsonburg as well has been cast in several herself.  Recently she played the piano for Theatre Tillsonburg's showing of "Cabaret" as well as "The Producers".  These were demanding shows that required the piano to be played throughout the 2 1/2 hour show, which meant that she spent many months practising for this and spent up to a couple hours a day practising during the course of the run for the 2 week show.

Dianne enjoys working with people and she seems to be able to install a love for music, in all of her students. She is patient and understanding and is a pleasant person to be around. She loves to smile and to laugh and thoroughly enjoys her work.
